The lightweight M551 Sheridan was designed as an airliftable tank, a cutting-edge design with aluminum alloy hull and powerful 152mm gun/launcher. Work began on it in 1959, and it was officially adopted in May 1966, with 1,600 produced by November 1970. Its first taste of live action came in the Vietnam War, fulfilling both shelling and offensive roles in a punishing environment, and it would also go on to serve in the Gulf War conflict. Experience taught valuable lessons on the use of the Sheridan, and led to reinforced armor to combat land mines, while some were given a wire netting RPG screen for protection from anti-tank rockets.

About the Model

- M551 form accurately rendered in impressive size, and based upon extensive research on an actual vehicle.
- An aluminum component is used to precisely recreate the large caliber 152mm gun/launcher barrel.
- Includes photo-etched parts to recreate the front anti-RPG net, and engine grilles.

- A soft photo-etched component allows bending and denting of the anti-RPG net to obtain a realistic look.

- This image goes close in on photo-etched engine grilles and the various ammo cases attached to the turret.


- A commander torso figure is included for placement at the machine gun, lending the model superb realism.


- 1/16 scale allows this precision rendering of the M2 maching gun, with detailed belt and other accessories.


- Left: Pre-assembled resin tracks even feature soft depictions of pads. The chassis uses plenty of metal parts.

- Right: Sprung arms ensure the weighty suspension moves in a manner similar to that seen on the real vehicle.
