How fast does this truck go? and what is its battery life?

Speed isn't quoted but we'd estimate around 25mph or so.
Runtime on the 1800mah pack included would be around 10-15 mins, or say around 30+ mins on a 5000mah pack

The electronics are water resistant. So yes, I wouldn't submerge it - but the odd splash should be fine.
Just bear in mind the increased maintenance required if used in wet weather

These have a pistol grip transmitter - with a wheel and trigger (as do all cars these days).
You could change it easily enough if you like to a twin stick set such as CB2HR

I’m looking to buy 2X HPI Maverick PHANTOM XT kits, but I intend to convert them to brushless so I don’t require the motor, esc, battery or charger. I also already have my TX and RX so I don’t need radio gear. I would like them to be supplied with the steering servo though.

This wuld work but may be a little slow as this is a brushed motor, you may be better with something brushless maybe like this MV15020MT80
