The PBM-5/5A Mariner is one of the unsung heroes of World War II. It served in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters of operation performing reconnaissance and anti-submarine patrol, air/sea rescue, and material transport to bases worldwide. ­e PBM-5/5A continued to serve after WWII with the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Coastguard, and the Allied militaries. Some were even de-militarized for civilian use. Of the over 1000 Mariners produced, only one is known to have survived and is being restored at the Pima Air Museum.
