Ok so this had to happen sooner or later.
This chassis is far superior to the TT-02 so it deserves to have a go with the fastest system I currently have at my disposal.
The setup is a Max10 esc and HPI Flux Vektor 4800kv motor. They are capable of running 2s or 3s and have clocked over 50mph in the TT-02 with some gearing changes so it will be interesting to see what they can do here with a better platform
For now it will be running only on 2s, as I will need to either purchase a 3s shorty lipo (rare find) or convert the car to 4wd using the optional conversion kit. This moves the motor into a central position and adds a rear diff and belt. It also swaps the servo to the opposite side of the car in order to fit the mounts for a regular stick sized lipo. There are then lots of 2s or 3s batteries available.
My wire tidy solution is also very easy to swap and change! Simply pull the clip open and you can access the wires inside and change whatever you need to.
So new motor in, along with ESC.
The motor coming out of the car is extremely fast considering that it is brushed - it is rated to over 40,000rpm at 2s voltage and it really shows. I’m very confident that it can clock around 40mph, maybe a bit more.
The downside to it though is heat. No matter what you do, brushless is much more efficient as there is no physical contact between brushes and rotors. This means more performance and more reliability. The added performance basically equates to more RPM and torque in most cases. Now in this case I don’t think the brushed motor will actually be out done when it comes to RPM, but I can definitely make use of the torque with some gearing. So after the initial run or two I will look to get the best out of this car in the same way I did with my Tamiya. Remember it did 26mph to start with and eventually over 50mph.
Now the car is built I took it for a run and the results were not totally unexpected. It ran 43 mph on 2s.
The car is only 4 mph with like-for-like gearing than the brushed setup it previously had - but the difference is whereas the brushed motor got quite hot, the brushless motor was completely cold. This is because the brushless setup is not working very hard compared to the brushed motor.
There is a massive scope there to unlock more speed with gearing.
