Hobao Transformer Truggy first run and top speed test

KB120

Updated 2023-06-12 by Frank

It's time to give the Hobao TT it's first run and see what speed it can do, this is a budget build so I am hoping the gearing I have gone for will not stress the motor or ESC! I will likely end up using this off-road mainly so I am not aiming for 70+MPH however it would be nice to get it between 40-50 MPH so that is the aim.

The build spec for this is as follows :

The plan was to get to work early one morning to get a full run of the car park before it got busy, so that's just what I did! The sun was shining so I was hoping for a nice dry surface, however the unit next door was out jet washing the van but that wasn't going to stop me!

Me getting the GPS Signal on the speed meter, for this run as always I will be using the Sky RC GNSS speed module

Ready and waiting! As soon as The speed meter had been calibrated, I attached it to the rear wing with a well placed cable tie, Just to clarify I do not recomend doing this just in case you flip the model, however I like to risk it for a chocolate biscuit ;)

After the first run I could not belive how well this thing accelerated! It really is impressive, comparable to the Arrma typhon 3s in my opinion, however it did seem to top out pretty quick so when I checked the speed after the first run the speed showed 39MPH.... I must admit i wanted a little more so I eyed up a second run to see if i could get into my target speed.

After the first run I was sure I could get a little more out of it so I set up for run 2, I was determined it could do more! Just to clarify I am running 11.1v voltz batteries for both runs, these are rated at 50c.

When I checked after the second run this was the result...

40MPH!!!

I know, I know. Not the fastest thing in the world however it is just within the speed bracket I aimed for and when you consider this is a budget build with a cheap motor and ESC I can not say I disappointed. I do think that I could gear up a bit more to get a higher top speed but taking in to account I will mainly run offroad I am not sure this will be wise unless I want to replace the electronics. I must say that I am pleased with the end result and think this will be a great little basher when i finally get chance to hit the dirt with so I am looking forward to getting it dirty!  Stay tuned for a full review soon :)
