About The Honda RA273
For 1966, Formula 1 regulations moved from 1.5-litre to 3-litre engines. Having achieved success with the 1.5-litre RA272, Honda’s engineers returned to the drawing board, debuting the RA273 at the Italian Grand Prix in the autumn of 1966. The car featured a lightweight monocoque with aluminium panels and a 90-degree V-12 engine, and was driven by Richie Ginther and John Surtees. Ginther closed the season in a respectable fourth place overall.
The RA273 ran through much of the 1967 season before being succeeded by the improved RA300, but it remains an icon of Honda’s early F1 endeavours.
