Historical Background
Towards the end of WWII, the German Army High Command commissioned Porsche to develop a superheavy tank armed with a 12.8 cm gun. Only two prototypes were completed in 1943 and serial production never began. Weighing around 188 tons, the vehicle’s immense mass made bridge crossings practically impossible. A surviving Maus prototype is displayed at the Kubinka Tank Museum.
