Introduced by the RAF in 1945 for aircraft undersides to minimise visual signature, Light Aircraft Grey was later used across full airframes by the late 1970s. It features in Guild Lane’s Jubilee palette celebrating British heritage colours.

Light Aircraft Grey Story
Light Aircraft Grey was introduced by the RAF in 1945. The colour was originally used for the undersides of aircraft because it greatly minimised the visual signature from the ground, even when flying close to water or at low altitude. By the late 1970s, Light Aircraft Grey was extended to cover the entire airframe of certain designs.
