Pillar Box Red Story
Early Victorian post boxes were originally painted bronze green to be unobtrusive. In London’s smog, this proved impractical, and in 1874 the colour was changed and standardised by the Post Office as the unmistakable Pillar Box Red.
Colours of Britain
Jubilee celebrates British history and culture through colour. The palette draws on pioneering British Standard shades from the 1930s, offering a heritage-inspired selection for makers and crafters.
Our Story
Guild Lane is inspired by the medieval guilds that upheld craft quality and standards. Based in the North Downs of Kent, products have been developed for hobbyists, DIYers, crafters and makers since 1975.

Pillar Box Red Story
Early Victorian post boxes used a bronze green colour in the hope that it would be unobtrusive. However, in the thick London smog, green proved to be rather too unobtrusive as people kept running into them. In 1874, the colour was changed to red and standardised by the Post Office as Pillar Box Red.
Colours of Britain
Jubilee is a celebration of British history and culture, expressed in colour. This carefully curated palette has its origins in the pioneering British Standard colours of the 1930s. Celebrate your British spirit with Jubilee!
