Rooted in the medieval Latin tannare (to tan leather), Tawny Orange appears in heraldry as tenn, described as a stain of orange. It is also cited in the 1937 volume of Traditional British Colours produced for the Coronation of His Majesty King George VI.

Tawny Orange has its roots in the medieval Latin word tannare, meaning to tan leather. In heraldry it is referred to as tenn and is described as a stain of orange. Tenn also appears in the 1937 volume of Traditional British Colours that was produced for the Coronation of His Majesty King George VI.
