Elcano Lifeboat (HC-AL19019), a wooden model ship kit that recreates a lifeboat from the renowned Spanish brigantine schooner Juan Sebastian Elcano. Launched in 1927 at Cádiz, the Elcano has long served as the Spanish Navy’s training ship for Marine Guards.
Named after the explorer who completed the first circumnavigation in 1522, the vessel has undertaken extended instructional cruises of around 20,000 miles. In preparation for the 1964 Lisbon–Hamilton transatlantic race, some sails were modified and, after hard training, the ship achieved speeds of up to 15 knots. This compact 1/35 scale project offers a satisfying build and an elegant display piece for model ship builders and maritime history enthusiasts.
