The Artesania Pen Duick (HC-AL22418) is a wooden model kit representing the celebrated Pen Duick racing cutter, a yacht closely linked to the achievements of French sailor Eric Tabarly. This kit offers a thoughtful project for ship modelling enthusiasts and fans of classic sailing craft.
History & Inspiration
Rescued from neglect by Eric Tabarly and his father when he was just seven years old, Pen Duick became the first in a succession of boats with which Tabarly earned notable race victories. Born in Nantes in 1931, he broke records during an era when Anglo‑Saxon crews dominated ocean racing. Rather than resting on success, he continued to innovate with ever more efficient yachts. Tabarly later disappeared in the English Channel while at the helm of his old Pen Duick on the way to a classic sailing regatta in Scotland. This model pays homage to that storied legacy and the enduring appeal of traditional cutters.

Born in Nantes in 1931, Tabarly developed from childhood a passion for the sea and sailing. He got great victories and sprayed records in a time when Anglo-Saxons dominated ocean races. Far from relaxing in the glory, he continued to build ever more efficient ships and winning races. He met his end by disappearing on the water of the English Channel when steering his old Pen Duick to participate on a regatta of classic sailing in Scotland.
