ICM BQM-34A Firebee Drone Model Kit HC-ICM48403

The ICM (BQM-34A) Q-2C Firebee - US Drone kit, part number HC-ICM48403, is a 1:48 scale plastic model kit featuring two unmanned target drones and their under-wing pylons. The BQM-34A Firebee was developed by Teledyne Ryan Aeronautical for the United States Air Force as a variable-speed target used in pilot training and air-defence exercises. An army version was also produced as the MQM-34D, which used a ground launcher.

In service, the Firebee was controlled by radio from an operator during flight. After completing its mission or being struck by a rocket, the drone returned to the ground by parachute. Various aircraft were used to carry the targets, including the DB-26. In this carrier configuration, the aircraft had its weapons removed and the unmanned drones were suspended beneath the wings on pylons.

This kit provides two drone models and the pylons needed to represent an under-wing launch arrangement. The parts are supplied on plastic sprues, with assembly instructions included to guide construction. The markings cover US Navy and US Air Force BQM-34 Firebee target drones, including examples associated with Naval Base Ventura County and Wallace Air Station. The manufacturer also indicates suggested compatibility with aircraft from the Invader family.
