Description

The ICM Do 17Z-2 WWII Finnish Bomber (HC-ICM72308) is a 1:72 scale plastic aircraft model kit. It represents the twin-engine Dornier Do 17Z-2 bomber, developed in Germany during the late 1930s for high-speed bombing operations. The Do 17Z introduced a Waffenkopf-style nose and air-cooled Bramo 323 Fafnir engines, with around 500 Do 17Z-1 and Do 17Z-2 aircraft produced between 1939 and 1940.

Do 17Z aircraft were transferred to Finland and used by the Finnish Air Force during the Second World War. This kit provides parts for a Finnish-marked Do 17Z-2, with detailed sprues moulded in plastic and assembly instructions included. The 185-piece construction gives the model its scale form, while the supplied marking options represent aircraft operated by Finnish Air Force units in 1942.

Markings

  • Do 17Z-2, 3/Lelv 46, Finnish Air Force, February 1942
  • Do 17Z-2, 2/Lelv 46, Finnish Air Force, autumn 1942

Model Information

  • Scale: 1:72
  • Number of parts: 185
  • Wingspan: 220 mm
  • Length: 250 mm
  • Box size: 295 x 225 x 40 mm

The finished aircraft model follows the proportions of the Do 17Z-2 bomber at 1:72 scale, with a 220 mm wingspan and 250 mm overall length. The kit is supplied as a plastic assembly project rather than a pre-built model, and the included instructions guide construction from the detailed sprues. Its Finnish Air Force markings provide two historically identified schemes from 1942, allowing the aircraft to be represented in either of the listed service configurations.

Specifications

In the beginning of the 1930s, there was a desire for a high-speed bomber that could outpace contemporary fighter planes. One plane to come to fruition from this desire was the twin-engine bomber Do 17 designed and produced by German company Dornier Flugzeugwerke. Since the beginning of 1939, they produced Do 17Z planes with new “Waffenkopf” type nose part and air-cooled Bramo 323 Fafnir engines. In 1939-1940, they produced about 500 Do 17Z-1 and Do 17Z-2 bombers. These aircraft were also transferred to Finland.
