It represents the Soviet I-153 biplane fighter, also known as the Chaika, in Luftwaffe service. The set includes figures of two Luftwaffe officers, a pilot and four ground personnel, with clothing and equipment details that add context to the completed aircraft model.

Created by the Polikarpov Design Bureau in 1938, the I-153 developed the earlier I-15 fighter design and introduced retractable landing gear. A total of 3,437 aircraft were produced, and the type first saw combat against Japanese aviation over Mongolia in 1939. By the beginning of the German-Soviet War, the I-153 was considered obsolete because of its low speed, but it continued to serve in fighter, air defence and attack roles.

German forces captured operational I-153 aircraft on Soviet airfields during Operation Barbarossa. The Luftwaffe used some for test flights, while others were transferred to allied countries, including Finland. This kit focuses on the aircraft in its Luftwaffe variant, with three marking options and corresponding decals included for different historical schemes.
