The ICM I-16 Type 17 is a 1:32 scale plastic model kit of the landmark Polikarpov monoplane fighter. The real I-16 was among the first fighters to feature retractable landing gear. The Type 17 variant, armed with two ShVAK cannons and two ShKAS machine guns and powered by the M-25 engine, was produced from 1937 to 1939 with 341 aircraft built. These aircraft saw action at Khalkhin Gol and during the Soviet–Finnish War, and in 1941 they formed the backbone of Soviet fighter forces across the Soviet–German Front.

This ICM kit (part HC-ICM32005) delivers an accurate copy with crisp moulding, highly detailed sprues and a well-appointed cockpit and chassis. With 121 parts, a finished length of 192 mm and width of 282 mm, it offers an engaging build supported by clear assembly instructions and a four-version decal sheet.

One of the first monoplane fighter aircraft with retractable landing gear was the I-16, developed in the N.N. Polikarpov Design Bureau. The maiden flight was on December 30th, 1934. The “type 17” modification with two ShVAK cannons, two ShKAS machine gun armament and M-25 engine was in production from 1937 to 1939. Some 341 I-16 type 17 planes were manufactured. These fighters took part in the Khalkhin Gol conflict and the Soviet-Finnish war.
