The Italeri 1/72 A-26 A/B Invader (HC-1274) represents the renowned Douglas twin-engine attack aircraft with its exceptional operational longevity. Entering frontline service in 1944, the Invader went on to see action through the major conflicts of the 1950s and 1960s, including the Korean and Indochina wars, and later the Vietnam War.

The most widely produced variant, the B model, was distinguished by formidable firepower. Its closed nose could house between six and eight Browning M2 .50 calibre (12.7 mm) machine guns, and the robust airframe also permitted alternative armament fits including 20 mm or 37 mm cannons, and even a 75 mm howitzer. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial engines delivering 2,000 horsepower each, the Invader could reach around 570 km/h even at full operational load.
