ICM Jig Dog JD-1D Invader US Navy Aircraft Kit

The ICM Jig Dog JD-1D Invader US Navy aircraft model kit, part number HC-ICM48287, is a 1:48 scale plastic kit representing the naval JD-1D version of the Invader.

During the second half of the 1940s, the US Navy used Invader aircraft for a range of secondary missions. Naval aircraft received the JD-1 designation and the nickname “Jig Dog”, while Marine Invaders were painted in bright colours to aid identification. Their duties included towing air targets, photographing different subjects and carrying unmanned aircraft used as training targets for pilots and air defence calculations.

JD-1 aircraft served with VU-2, VU-3, VU-4, VU-5, VU-7 and VU-10, the aviation squadrons of the American fleet. The JD-1D variant was later redesignated DB-26J in 1962. The included decal sheet provides two marking options: aircraft 89075 from Utility Squadron VU-3 in the 1950s, and aircraft 140356 from China Lake in 1958.
