Zvesda’s LaGG-3 Soviet WWII Fighter (part HC-Z4833) represents the 66th production series variant developed by the Lavochkin Design Bureau. This was the final LaGG-3 to use a liquid-cooled engine, and design refinements raised the maximum speed to 591 km/h—an increase of 25 km/h over earlier production aircraft.
This advanced LaGG-3 configuration carried one 20 mm cannon and a single 12.7 mm machine gun. It was produced at the GAZ-31 plant in Tbilisi from May 1943 to June 1944, after which LaGG-3 production ceased. As the most advanced of the LaGG-3 series, the 66th production run reflects the pinnacle of the type’s wartime development.
