ICM Mistel 1 WWII German Aircraft Model Kit HC-ICM48100

The ICM Mistel 1 - WWII German Composite Aircraft (HC-ICM48100) is a 1:48 plastic model kit representing the German Mistel 1 guided attack aircraft system used during the Second World War. The set depicts the Ju 88 bomber combat component mounted beneath a Bf 109 fighter carrier aircraft. It contains 251 parts for assembly, with detailed fuselage elements and the distinctive warhead fitted to the front of the bomber.

The Mistel system was designed to turn the Ju 88 into a remotely guided aircraft carrying a large explosive warhead. The pilot of the upper fighter controlled the complete combination after take-off, then separated from the bomber once the target had been identified. The model allows the warhead to be assembled with either of two detonator positions, providing a choice in the appearance of the nose section.

Mistel 1 aircraft were used by specialised Luftwaffe units against Allied shipping off the French coast in summer 1944. Later, in spring 1945, similar systems were used against bridges and crossings during the advance of the Red Army. The supplied markings represent aircraft associated with 2./KG 101 at St Dizier and in France, as well as an aircraft probably connected with Einsatzgruppe 101 at Burg.
