ICM Sikorsky CH-54A Tarhe Model Kit HC-ICM53055

The ICM Sikorsky CH-54A Tarhe with M-121 bomb (HC-ICM53055) is a 1:35 scale plastic model kit. It represents the heavy-lift helicopter used by the US Army during the Vietnam War to carry equipment, vehicles, weapons, ammunition and the M-121 super-heavy bomb.

The CH-54A was adapted for carrying the M-121 after the bomb's rear hull and tail stabilisers were removed and a special parachute was fitted to slow its fall. An elongated nose detonator provided a blast height of approximately three feet above the ground. These modified bombs were used to clear forest quickly for helipads, helping to reduce landing times and support a more flexible tactical response. The last example was used on 8 August 1970.

The kit depicts Sikorsky CH-54A Tarhe 67-18416 with M-121 bomb, operated by the 478th Heavy Helicopter Company of the 1st Cavalry Division at Phu Bai Air Base in autumn 1968. The finished model represents both the aircraft and its suspended bomb load.
