The Tamiya 1/24 BMW 320i Racing (E21) plastic model assembly kit, part number HC-24379, is an updated re-issue of the racing car kit originally released in 1977. Based on the 320i two-door saloon, this competition version represents BMW's 1977 return to the World Championship for Makes with a 2,000cc 16-valve inline-four engine producing 298hp. The car made its debut at the 24 Hours of Daytona, where it began a close rivalry with the Porsche 935 in the 2-litre class.
Features
The model captures the purposeful appearance of the BMW 320i Racing with pronounced overfenders, a deep chin spoiler and a large rear wing. The body styling reflects aerodynamic development carried out at the Pininfarina facility in Italy. Inside, the kit includes a detailed representation of the inline-four DOHC engine and a racing interior fitted with a roll cage. Tyres feature Goodyear lettering, adding a period detail to the completed model.
This re-issue includes newly produced Cartograf decals, metal transfers and an updated instruction manual. The decals and transfers provide the markings and finish details needed to represent the racing car, while the single driver figure completes the competition-focused interior presentation.

Tamiya is delighted to announce an updated re-issue of Item 24002 1/24 BMW 320i Racing (originally sold in 1977: motorised at that time) with new Cartograf decals and metal transfers, and updated instruction manual. BMW took on the 1976 World Championship for Makes with the 3.0CSL, and while Porsche took both the Division 3 title for cars over 3,000cc and the Division 2 title for those between 2,000cc and 3,000cc, BMW did not back down and returned in 1977 for a renewed challenge with the 320i Racing: based on the 1975 release 320i two-door saloon, it was souped up with a 298hp 2,000cc 16-valve inline-4 engine. The body’s aerodynamics are said to have undergone testing and refinement in the Pininfarina facility in Italy, and were enhanced with a pronounced chin spoiler and a rear wing. The 320i Racing made its debut in the opening race of the 1977 season, the 24 Hours of Daytona, and its heated rivalry in the 2-litre class with the Porsche 935 would continue.
