Famed for the night attack on Taranto and crippling the Bismarck, the Royal Navy’s Fairey Swordfish later excelled in anti-submarine duties. Entering service in 1943, the Mk.II gained a more powerful engine and metal lower wings, enabling it to carry rockets. Operating from MAC ships and escort carriers, the Mk.II helped safeguard Atlantic convoys and was credited with sinking 20 U-boats by the end of the war.
