About The Hetzer
In 1943, the German high command ordered development of a new light tank destroyer to replace vehicles such as the StuG III and Marder. Sharing many components with the Panzerkampfwagen 38(t), the Hetzer prototype appeared in 1944 and mass production began in April the same year. By May 1945, 2,584 had been produced. Manned by a crew of four, it mounted a 75 mm Pak 39 L/48 in a fixed superstructure and featured fully sloped armour. Continuous production changes led to distinct early, mid and late variants, with the mid-production version represented in this kit.
