Description

The ICM U-2/Po-2 - WWII Soviet Multi-Purpose Aircraft plastic model kit, part number HC-ICM72244, is a 1:72 scale kit depicting the Soviet U-2 biplane, later renamed the Po-2. Designed as a basic training aircraft, the Polikarpov U-2 first flew in June 1927 and became widely used for pilot training from the early 1930s.

During the Second World War, U-2 aircraft served in liaison and ambulance roles. Following the death of N. N. Polikarpov in 1944, the aircraft was renamed Po-2. This ICM kit provides 89 parts for assembly and includes instructions to guide construction. The moulded parts depict the aircraft at 1:72 scale, with a finished model length of 114 mm and width of 158 mm.

Markings

The decal options represent four aircraft from different periods and units of wartime service. These include U-2 aircraft from summer 1941, winter 1942 and summer 1943, together with a Po-2 from the 339th Independent Liaison Air Regiment on the 3rd Belorussian Front in February 1945.

Specifications

One of the most numerous and famous aircraft in aviation history was the Polikarpov U-2. It was designed as a basic training aircraft. The maiden flight was in June 1927. Since the early 1930s, the U-2 became the real “flying deck” for thousands of Soviet pilots. During WWII, U-2 biplanes were successfully used, in particular, as liaison and ambulance aircraft. In 1944, after N.N. Polikarpov's death, the plane was renamed to Po-2.
