Kyosho Legendary Beetle Build Article
Updated by Frank

I always loved the look of the legendary Beetle, so I decided to get one and see if it was worth it. Kyosho is a brand that I had never really looked at as a brand to buy for many years however over time after speaking to others regarding the kits and the chassis I slowly developed that itch that we all get when we want something. I had held off for long enough and after a few weeks debating with myself I pulled the trigger and took this home.

Everything was nicely packaged and labelled making it easier to pick out the correct parts for the build process which is always great.

And so it begins! I have to say I really like the basic ladder chassis design and love the fact that the bulk of the components are aluminium. The whole thing just feels so premium compared to the bulk of the Tamiya kits I have built in the past. All of the parts seem to go together so easily and the manual does a great job of giuding the build.

The gearbox was straightforward to assemble and I like the basic yet effective inspection cover with the Kyosho Japan text.

As you can see I have opted to go brushless with this build, the system I have used in the SKY RC Toro TS50 combo that I will run on 7.4v 2s Lipo. This is a budget system however I feel it will be a nice upgrade over basic brushed electronics.

It is starting to come together nicely now!

So basic yet so enjoyable to build, this has been much more fun to build than any Tamiya kit I have ever built I must say. I do also love the fact I do not have to cut the bodyshell out making the build a bit easier and less time consuming.

As you can see I opted to use a black wheel rather than the standard kit yellows wheels, this is just a personal choice.

That’s the main kit built, now just to decide on a paint scheme and get it painted.
