Historical Overview
The T-34 was one of the most famous tanks of the Second World War and the mainstay of the Soviet Army. A key innovation was its sloped front armour, which offered improved protection from direct hits. Wide tracks delivered excellent mobility across challenging terrain, including mud and snow. Early T-34s armed with a 76 mm short-barrel gun gained an immediate advantage over common German tanks of the period, such as the Panzer III and Panzer IV. Powered by a 12-cylinder diesel engine, the T-34 could reach around 55 km/h and was widely regarded, for overall operational effectiveness, as one of the best tanks of the war.
