The Tamiya 1/700 JMSDF Defence Ship FFM-1 Mogami captures the first of Japan’s next-generation Mogami-class frigates, commissioned in April 2022. With advanced stealth characteristics and a multi-purpose role that includes mine-related duties, the real ship features equipment stored beneath the slanted flight deck and accessed via a stern hatch. Released in October 2023 as part of Tamiya’s Water Line Series, this detailed kit offers a sharp, modern subject in compact 1/700 scale.

Our 1/700 Water Line Series welcomes Item 31037 1/700 JMSDF Defense Ship FFM-1 Mogami. The Mogami was commissioned on April 28, 2022, ushering in a new era of Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF) defence ships as the first of its eponymous Mogami class which was given a new FFM classification, signifying its ships’ status as frigates (FF) with a multi-purpose brief including mine(M)-related duties, and featured advanced stealth characteristics. The equipment under rear flight deck is able to be taken from the stern hatch and utilized for minesweeping and marine patrol, while a slanted flight deck secures the space to store the equipment. As of March, 2023, six ships of this class have been launched, and twelve ships in total are planned.
