Developed from the M3 half-track, the M21 evolved from the T19 prototype and entered U.S. Army service in 1943. Powered by a 127hp inline six-cylinder petrol engine, it could reach up to 72km/h on road. Its primary armament was the 81mm M1 mortar, complemented by a 12.7mm Browning M2 machine gun and an M1 or M9 anti-tank rocket launcher. Used for close infantry support throughout WWII, the type remained in service until later replaced by the M125. This faithful Tamiya kit was originally introduced in 1976 and remains a popular subject for its historical interest and modelling potential.
