Colour Story: RAF Blue-Grey
In 1918, as the Royal Air Force was founded, British textile firm AW Hainsworth presented a grey-blue woollen cloth originally intended for the Tsar's Cossacks. Owing to unrest in Russia the cloth could not be delivered, and the newly formed RAF adopted the surplus fabric, establishing RAF Blue-Grey as its official uniform colour.

RAF Blue-Grey Story
On its founding in 1918, the Royal Air Force needed new uniforms and turned to the famous British textile firm, AW Hainsworth. Hainsworth duly presented a grey-blue woollen cloth originally intended for the Tsar s Cossacks. Due to unrest in Russia the cloth couldn t be delivered and the newly formed RAF welcomed the surplus fabric and adopted the colour for its official uniform.
