The Ki-21 first flew on 18 December 1936, entered series production in spring 1938, and was built by both Nakajima and Mitsubishi with subtle nose variations. The Ib variant, developed from combat experience over China, featured enhanced small arms and a distinctive tail gun position. These aircraft saw action in the Sino-Japanese War and early World War II before later service in training units and as transports.
This ICM release (part HC-ICM48195) is the brand’s first 1:48 kit of the Ki-21, offering precise moulding, detailed fuselage skin reproduction and a well-appointed bomb bay. The kit provides various defensive machine guns, four bombs, and decal options for four historically themed markings, supported by clear assembly instructions.

A modification of the aircraft designated Ki-21-Ib (the second production version of the Ki-21 bomber line) was produced with the experience of air combat in the skies of China and had enhanced small arms. The main visual difference between the bombers of this modification was the tail machine gun emplacement. The aircraft took an active part in combat operations during the Sino-Japanese War and the early stages of World War II. Subsequently, they were transferred to training units, and some of them were converted into transport aircraft.
