The ICM I-153 (Winter Version) in 1:32 scale captures the iconic Soviet Polikarpov biplane fighter at its peak development, complete with ski undercarriage for winter operations. Designated the “Chaika” (Gull) thanks to its distinctive gull-shaped upper wing, the real aircraft featured a retractable chassis, four ShKAS machine guns and radial M-62/M-63 powerplants. First flown in August 1938, a total of 3,437 I-153s were produced between 1939 and 1941, serving alongside I-16s and remaining in combat until mid-1943.

This quality plastic model kit from ICM (part number HC-ICM32011) offers highly detailed sprues and a thoroughly represented engine and cockpit interior. Clear instructions and a choice of four marking schemes make it a rewarding build for aircraft modellers interested in WWII Soviet aviation and winterised biplanes.

The final and most perfect aircraft in the N. N. Polikarpov design bureau production biplane fighter family was the I-153. It had a gull-shaped upper wing, retractable chassis and more powerful armament with four ShKAS machine guns. Serial planes had M-62 radial engines, while late series had the more powerful M-63. The maiden flight was in August 1938. Between 1939 and 1941, there were 3,437 planes manufactured. In the summer of 1941, the I-153 “Chaika” (translating as the “Gull”) was the basis of the Soviet Fighter Aviation with I-16 fighters. I-153 planes were used in combat until mid-1943.
