Historical Context
The German Army was an early adopter of dedicated sniper training, tasking marksmen with neutralising key targets such as officers, couriers, machine-gun teams and artillery crews. By the end of WWII, infantry companies could field several sniper rifles, and this doctrine influenced Allied forces to develop similar capabilities.
