Choosing the right motor:
- Brushed vs brushless: brushed for simplicity and smooth low-speed control (great for crawlers); brushless for higher efficiency and speed in racers.
- Sizes: 130/180 for 1/24–1/20; 370/380 for 1/18–1/16. Check can length, mounting hole spacing and shaft diameter (commonly 1.5mm, 2.0mm or 2.3mm).
- kV/Turns: lower kV (higher turns) for torque and cooler running; higher kV (lower turns) for top speed. Match to your battery voltage (typically 2S–3S LiPo).
- Inrunner vs outrunner: inrunners suit high-speed setups; outrunners can give punchy torque in micro crawlers.
- Pairing: choose an ESC rated for the motor’s current and cell count; start with conservative gearing and monitor temps.
