About the IJN Type 2 “Ka‑Mi”

The Type 2 was the Imperial Japanese Navy’s first amphibious tank, designed for landing forces assaulting Pacific islands without regular port facilities. Production began in 1942, with a total of 184 vehicles completed. For water operations, large pontoons were attached to the glacis plate and rear deck, enabling speeds of around 10 km/h; these floats could be shed once ashore. The turret mounted a 3.7 cm Type 1 gun with a coaxial Type 97 machine gun.
