This is quite a detailed model kit... Not ideal for a novice, let alone a child of that kind of age.

Your radio would likely be fine, but this is not a build for the novice modeller.
You'd want a modeling knife, sandpaper, wood glues, "G" clamps, paint (and Patience!).
