Description
The ICM In the Skies of China 1:72 set (HC-ICMDS7204) brings together a Ki-21-Ia bomber and two Ki-27a fighters in a highly detailed plastic model kit. Capturing notable Japanese Army Air Force types from the late 1930s, this boxed set provides accurate geometry, crisp surface detail and multiple marking options for an engaging build and display.
In the spring of 1938, Ki-27a fighters appeared over China, where their performance, combined with well-trained crews, gave the Japanese air arm a clear advantage in combat, including against Soviet-made I-15 and I-16 aircraft. The Ki-21-Ia bomber entered service the same year with the 60th Sentai and was quickly committed to active operations. Crews developed close-formation tactics with mutual defensive fire, and the aircraft proved notably survivable against conventional-calibre fire. For a period, the Ki-21-Ia served as the only long-range bomber in the Japanese Army Air Force.

first to receive them. The planes were immediately involved in active combat operations, and their crews managed to develop an effective tactic of use: they maintained a close combat formation in the target area, combining this with mutual fire support. The Ki-21-Ia bombers also proved to be highly survivable, being able to withstand damage from a large number of conventional calibre bullets. For a certain period of time, these aircraft were the only long-range bombers in the Japanese Army Air Force.
