Italeri Carro Armato P40

Italeri’s Carro Armato P40 (HC-6599) depicts the Italian P26/40 heavy tank from the later years of the Second World War. Developed to address the shortcomings of earlier Italian medium tanks, the type introduced more modern design principles, notably sloped frontal armour, a more capable 420 HP diesel engine and the 75/34 Ansaldo main gun.

Combat experience in the early years of WW2 exposed the limitations of Italy’s existing armoured force when faced with better-armed and better-protected opponents, and increasingly effective anti-tank weapons. After studying German, British and Soviet vehicles, Italian designers created a 26-ton heavy tank that underwent several revisions before entering service as the P26/40, also known as the Carro Armato P40.
