About The HH-53C

Entering service in the late 1960s, the HH-53C was engineered for combat search and rescue with long endurance and exceptional reliability. Enhancements over earlier versions included an aerial refuelling probe, additional fuel tanks, reinforced armour and options for extra defensive armament. Upgraded radio systems improved coordination with supporting aircraft—such as tankers and attack or escort helicopters—critical for locating and recovering downed aircrew. The type saw extensive use during the Vietnam War.
