Historical Background

The Junkers Ju 87 Stuka was a two-seat dive-bomber and ground-attack aircraft. First flown in 1935, it saw combat in 1936 with the Condor Legion during the Spanish Civil War. Recognisable by its inverted gull wings and fixed landing gear, the Stuka incorporated innovative automatic pull-up dive brakes to aid recovery from steep attack dives.
