The Italeri LCVP with US Infantry D‑Day (HC‑6524) is part of the D‑DAY SERIES: Normandy 1944/2014 and features 100% new moulds. This set portrays the iconic Landing Craft, Vehicle, Personnel (LCVP) alongside U.S. infantry figures, capturing a pivotal element of Second World War amphibious operations.
Developed by Higgins Industries of New Orleans from a flat‑bottomed boat used in the Louisiana marshlands, the LCVP served throughout the Second World War in both Europe and the Pacific. Its role was to shuttle between larger ships and the shoreline, transporting up to thirty men, light vehicles and essential supplies. Typically armed with two rear‑mounted machine guns, the craft was powered by either a 250 HP Hall‑Scott petrol engine or a 225 HP Gray diesel engine. Post‑war, the LCVP continued in service, seeing action in Korea and Indochina and being adapted for civilian roles worldwide.
