Historical Background

Developed from lessons learned after WW1, the Motoscafo da Turismo Modificato (M.T.M.) was designed for a covert, high-speed approach against enemy vessels. The pilot would set the rudder for a straight run, then jump clear shortly before impact. On contact, the explosive charge housed in the bow detonated against the target. One of the most notable operations was the 1941 Suda Bay attack in Crete, when Luigi Faggioni led a unit that struck the Royal Navy heavy cruiser HMS York.
