About The JA 37 Jaktviggen

The JA 37 “Jaktviggen” was developed to enhance Sweden’s all-weather air defence capability. Evolving from the multi-role AJ 37, the JA variant introduced upgraded avionics, radar and weapon systems tailored to fighter-interceptor duties. The Viggen’s distinctive delta-canard configuration, combined with the powerful Volvo RM8 afterburning turbofan, enabled a top speed of around Mach 2.1. Serving for years as the backbone of the Swedish Air Force, the Viggen was progressively replaced by the advanced JAS 39 Gripen.
