Italeri Sd.Kfz 265 Panzerbefehl Swagen

Italeri’s Sd.Kfz 265 Panzerbefehlswagen (part HC-7072) highlights the Wehrmacht’s early armoured command vehicle, developed so Panzer division commanders could operate close to the front and coordinate units effectively. Based on the Panzer I Ausf. B light tank chassis, the conventional turret was removed in favour of a tall, fixed superstructure that provided extra working space.

The commander’s compartment accommodated battle maps along with transmission and communication equipment, and many vehicles carried an additional hull-mounted radio aerial to increase communication range. Produced from the second half of the 1930s, the Kleine Panzerbefehlswagen saw its combat debut in the Spanish Civil War. Considered outdated by the start of the Second World War, it was often reassigned to the signal corps, with some examples converted for ambulance duties.
