Description

The Italeri USN SBD-3 Dauntless scale model, part number HC-2841, recreates the single-engine, low-wing aircraft used by the U.S. Navy during the Second World War. At 1:48 scale, the completed model measures 24.2 cm and represents the SBD-3 variant associated with the Battle of Midway in June 1942.

The Douglas SBD Dauntless served as both a reconnaissance aircraft and a carrier-based dive bomber. Entering active service with American flight units in 1941, it became the most widely used carrier-based dive bomber in the U.S. Navy. The SBD-3 was powered by a Wright R-1820 Cyclone radial engine and was valued by its crews for its ruggedness and solid construction.
