The Mary Rose was launched in 1510 as the flagship of King Henry VIII's fleet. She sank off Portsmouth in 1545 while preparing to lead a British fleet against a French invasion force. The circumstances of the sinking remain uncertain. The ship carried 78 guns and had a normal complement of nearly 400 people, including mariners, soldiers, gunners, pilots and trumpeters.
