Celebrating the pioneering era of Swiss electric traction, the LGB RhB Class Ge 4/6 Electric Locomotive (HC-L24602) models Rhätische Bahn road number 355 in Gauge G, Era I. Finished with prototypical paintwork and lettering, this large-scale locomotive blends robust engineering with rich digital control, featuring an mfx/DCC decoder, realistic sound, and detailed lighting effects.

Prototype Background

As early as 1900, the Rhätische Bahn explored electrifying its lines, selecting the Bever–Scuol route in the Engadin as an experimental corridor. Between 1912 and 1914, several Class Ge 4/6 locomotives were delivered by SLM and MFO, numbered 351–355. With a 560 kW output and a top speed of 55 km/h (34.375 mph), these machines proved highly capable. Originally finished in green and later repainted in the traditional brown of the period, they were modernised in parts and continued in service well into the 1970s due to increased traffic demands.

Key Features

  • Model of the RhB Ge 4/6 electric locomotive, road number 355 (Era I)
  • Gauge G design with a length over buffers of 50 cm (19-5/8″)
  • Two double-arm pantographs with servo drive; raise and lower in digital operation
  • Prototypical paint scheme and accurate lettering
  • All four driving wheelsets powered by two strong motors
  • Integrated mfx/DCC decoder with multiple sound and light functions, including directional headlights and cab lighting
  • Buffer capacitor included for stable performance
  • Traction tyres for confident grip

With twin motors driving all four wheelsets, traction tyres, and a built-in buffer capacitor, this impressive 50 cm locomotive offers smooth running and presence in G scale. The servo-controlled pantographs, directional lighting, and powerful sound set bring the RhB Ge 4/6 to life, while the prototypical finish captures the character of early Rhätische Bahn electrics. A standout LGB piece for enthusiasts of Swiss narrow gauge and historic Era I motive power.

As early as 1900 the RhB began to give thought to electrifying its routes. Against the background of still new electrical operation was the planned route from Bever to Scuol in the Engadin area as an experimental route. Several class Ge 4/6 locomotives were ordered and delivered between 1912 and 1914. The locomotives delivered chiefly by SLM and MFO, road numbers 351 to 355 turned out very well and met all the requirements with their performance of 560 kilowatts and a maximum speed of 55 km/h / 34.375 mph. The units were originally painted green and between 1920 and 1923 were painted in the usual brown used on older design locomotives. Actually, these locomotives were supposed to be retired after the delivery of the Ge 4/4 I, but this was not possible due to the increase in traffic in the Fifties and Sixties. The locomotives were partially modernized and continued to remain in use well into the Seventies.
