Bring two of the most famous German WWII armour icons to your bench with the ICM Panzerwaffe Steel Cats set (HC-ICMDS3524). This 1:48 plastic model kit focuses on the Pz.Kpfw.V Panther Ausf.D and the Pz.Kpfw.VI Ausf.B Königstiger (King Tiger), offering finely detailed parts, accurate proportions and period decals to represent vehicles from different stages of the war.

Early fighting on the Eastern Front revealed the need for better-protected, more powerfully armed tanks. The Panther entered production in 1943 with the long‑barrelled 7.5 cm KwK42 L/70 and a combat weight of roughly 43–45.5 tonnes. Often cited as one of the finest tanks of the conflict, it also formed the basis for the Jagdpanther tank destroyer and the Bergepanther recovery vehicle. In the winter of 1944, the Henschel-designed Königstiger followed, combining heavy armour with a long 88 mm gun whose armour‑piercing rounds could defeat Allied tanks at 2,000 metres or more. Around 479 Königstiger were produced between 1944 and 1945, serving in heavy tank battalions through to the end of the war.

This dual-subject set delivers the preserved geometry and crisp surface detail modellers expect from ICM, with highly detailed armoured hulls, chassis and weapons moulded in quality plastic. Clear assembly instructions and decal options support an engaging build straight from the box.

Before the start of World War II, the tank forces of the Third Reich (Panzerwaffe) were mainly equipped with light and medium tanks. The results of battles on the Eastern Front in 1941 showed that to successfully counter Soviet tanks, new types of armoured vehicles with powerful guns and thick armour were needed. At the beginning of 1943, production of the Pz.Kpfw V Panther tank with a 75-mm long-barrelled 7.5 cm KwK42 L/70 gun began. The weight of this tank, depending on the modification, ranged from 43 to 45.5 tons. This tank was classified as both medium and heavy based on various criteria.

Many military historians consider it one of the best tanks of World War II. The Pz.Kpfw V also served as the basis for the Jagdpanther tank destroyer and the Bergepanther recovery vehicle. In the winter of 1944, production of another tank, the Pz.Kpfw VI Ausf B Konigstiger, developed by Henschel under the leadership of E. Aders, began. This tank had heavy armour and a long-barrelled 88-mm gun. Its armour-piercing shell was capable of hitting any Allied tank at a distance of 2000 meters or more. The Pz.Kpfw.VI Ausf.B tanks served in heavy tank battalions until the end of the war, with a total of 479 Königstiger produced between 1944 and 1945.
