Description
The Tamiya 1:12 Tyrrel P34 Wheeler W Etch plastic model assembly kit, part number HC-12036, recreates the six-wheeled Formula One car that made its racing debut in 1976. The Tyrrell P34 used four front wheels to reduce air drag while supporting its steering and braking design. The car achieved a 1-2 finish at the 1976 Swedish Grand Prix and helped Tyrrell finish third in that year's Constructors' standings.
This scale kit includes a detailed representation of the car's 3-litre V8 engine, with its water pump, fuel lines, pipes, cables and other visible details. The cockpit includes pedals and photo-etched seatbelt buckles, while the steering wheel operates the four front wheels through a rack-and-pinion arrangement. Front, side and cockpit cowl parts can be removed to show the completed detail beneath.
Features
Moving depictions of the front and rear suspension use coil springs to represent the complex mechanical layout. Photo-etched parts add detail to the brake discs, radiators, nose wing endplates, rear spoiler and seatbelt components. Cartograf decals are supplied for car numbers 3 and 4, Goodyear markings and the tyres, allowing the model to be finished in the markings associated with the P34.

Announced on September 22, 1975, the Tyrrell P34 caused a sensation - little wonder when one considers that it was the first six-wheeled Formula One car! Its layout employed 4 front wheels in an effort to reduce air drag while simultaneously improving the car's braking and steering. Following a number of test sessions and associated updates to the design, the P34 debuted in the hands of Patrick Depailler in the Spanish GP of May 1976. Things really took off a month later at the Swedish GP when Jody Scheckter led home Depailler in a marvellous 1-2 finish for the P34, demonstrating the potential that the car had, underlined by Tyrrell's 3rd place finish in that year's Constructors' standings.
