The Tamiya 1:12 Yamaha RZV500R (HC-14037) returns as an updated re-issue, enhanced with a B5-size double-sided photo pamphlet for painting reference and an updated four-language instruction manual. This detailed plastic model assembly kit captures the character of Yamaha’s iconic two-stroke sports bike with refined parts and premium finishing touches.

Inspired by the road-racing YZR500, the full-size RZV500R debuted at the 1983 Tokyo Motor Show featuring a lightweight, compact layout and a 500cc water-cooled V4 two-stroke engine claimed at 64hp and a 230km/h top speed. Tamiya’s kit translates that engineering spirit into an engaging, finely detailed build.

  • 1/12 scale plastic model assembly kit; approximate dimensions: length 172mm, width 56mm, height 97mm
  • New B5 double-sided colour photo pamphlet included for accurate painting guidance
  • Updated instruction manual and cover story in four languages
  • Crisp depictions of the 500cc two-stroke water-cooled V4 engine, SU carburettors, air cleaner and chambers

Model Highlights

From the intricate engine assembly to the authentic suspension layout, this kit rewards careful building and finishing. The added photo reference and multilingual instructions support a confident, accurate result, while Cartograf decals ensure crisp livery detail. A compelling project for motorcycle modelling enthusiasts and fans of Yamaha’s celebrated two-stroke era.

Tamiya welcomes an updated re-issue of Item 14037 1/12 Yamaha RZV500R (sold in 2011 last time) with a newly added B5-size double-sided pamphlet with colour photos of the full-size bike for painting reference and updated instruction manuals. The Yamaha RZV500R was announced at the Tokyo Motor Show 1983 with specs that basically made it equivalent to the road racer YZR500. Inheriting its lightweight, compact design from the YZR, the RZV featured a 500cc 2-stroke water-cooled V4 engine capable of 64hp and 230km/h top speed, which provided performance on the level of a litre-class motorcycle. The RZV500R opened up a new era of 2-stroke sports bikes and was invested with Yamaha’s significant know-how of both 2-stroke engines and racing.
